Martyr Buns

PM and I don't celebrate St. Valentine's Day, but we do celebrate St. Faustinus and Jovita Day--St. Faustinus and Jovita being two brothers who were beheaded because of their Christian faith.  St. Faustinus and Jovita Day falls on February 15th.  Last year, I made special sugar cookies:
I didn't want to get into a rut, so this year, I tried a variation: Martyr Buns--Chinese steamed buns filled with blood-red "brains".

Before Steaming.

After Steaming.

Sleepy-eyed PM after I burst into his room at 7am in the morning to serve him the buns of the martyrs....that sounded vaguely off-colour...
